J-1 SEVIS Essentials

The J-1 SEVIS Essentials program is designed for professionals who are either totally or relatively new to the profession and need a thorough explanation of the rudiments of J-1 Exchange Visitor status. Emphasis is placed on understanding documents, terminology, procedures and hands-on practice sessions. The government's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) will be explained throughout by the utilization of SEVIS screens.

Applying for J-1 Exchange Visitor Program Designation

This program will discuss the challenges of completing and submitting a successful DS-3036 (Exchange Visitor Program Application); and the differences between the Academic and Private Sector Divisions at the Office of Exchange Coordination and Designation. We will address each question in the DS-3036 and the preparation of all required supporting documentation.

Presenter: Sal Longarino is Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars at Fordham University. Previously, he directed the OISS at New York University for seven years. Sal was NAFSA's national CAFSS (now called KC-ISSS) chair. He is a Past Chair of NAFSA's Region X and a past member of Metro-International's Board of Directors. He is also currently NAFSA's New York State Whip for Advocacy and NAFSA's Alternate Representative to the DPI/NGO at the UN.
